An exhibit focusing on the importance and history of hats to African American women. Shown in conjunction with Roswell Roots and the Tea & Hat Shows.

“A Victorian Mourning” |
|
During the month of October, the Smith Home dons black and mourns the death of William Seagrove Smith, who died July 7, 1865 while serving in the Confederate Army. The exhibit highlights Victorian Mourning customs and clothing. |

“Treasures and Trifles” |
|
This exhibit features some of the thousands of artifacts stored until 2005 in the attic of the Smith Plantation Home. This exhibit demonstrates the Smith family’s tendency to save everything they owned from the trivial to the bizarre. |

For one day only, Smith Plantation patrons will enjoy the free-admission to the home when they present a Smithsonian’s admission card. Patrons can download the admission cards at Smthsonian.com or obtain one in the September issue of Smithsonian magazine. The card is valid for the subscriber plus one guest and is limited to one per household. Bring your card and enjoy a free visit to either Barrington Hall, Bulloch Hall, or Smith Plantation.
